Hello, my name is Alfred Holden . . .

. . . I am a journalist at the Toronto Star. This website brings together selected links and soon, I hope, scans of my Star and other writing about cities and city life, dating back to The Holden News, a single sheet published with my brother Jeffrey, on a toy printing press, when we were kids. My second newspaper job was at the Glebe Report in Ottawa. In the 21st century the Internet has presented fresh challenges to journalists, but one of its gifts is that it allows our work to live on and travel farther than printing pioneer Johannes Gutenberg ever dreamed. The reporting here, done over many years, is posted in case it is of interest to the public. It reflects a passion for cities and urban life people all over the world share. Please click on a topic from the line-up on the left. I can be reached at alfredholden@bell.net or aholden@thestar.ca
